Stefan Koubek retires: A pictorial tribute to a style icon

Austrian lefty Stefan Koubek retired from the sport this week. He was a colourful character in every sense of the word and had a nice game to watch. There’s no doubt he’ll be missed.

He picked up three titles in his career and reached the top 20 in March 2000. Koubek was also responsible for some of the best comebacks in the history of the sport.

In 2007 he trailed 6-4, 5-1 against Agustin Calleri in Sopot before triumphing in the third, while in 2002 he was 0-6, 1-6, 1-4 and 14-40 down against Cyril Saulnier but eventually prevailed 8-6 in the fifth.

But this entry isn’t about his playing days. No this entry is a about a style icon. A true innovator who was never afraid to break from the norm and adopt his own fashion rules. Although he’s married the first suggestion when you type his name into google is “Stefan Koubek gay”.

Even Google’s algorithms can’t get their heads around a straight man being so damn stylish.

Watch the following slide show, marvel at the designs on display and take notes. Behold the man they call El Fashionista.
